West returns to Capitol ready to work in 2025 session

Tuesday, January 14, 2025

ST. PAUL – State Rep. Nolan West, R-Blaine, returned to the Capitol on Tuesday to perform the oath of office in the Minnesota House of Representatives as a member of the 94th Legislature.

West was re-elected to the House in November. He serves District 32A, including portions of Blaine and Ham Lake, and all of Columbus.

“It’s great to be back at the Capitol, and great to have balance restored to Minnesota government so everyone has a voice.” West said. “I am motivated to get to work right away. I assume the Democrats’ political stunt will come to an end soon and they will come to work. We will need bipartisan agreement to get anything passed this session and I am willing to work across the aisle.”

West was appointed to serve as the chair of the Children and Families Finance and Policy Committee.

“I'm excited to serve as the chair of the Children and Families Finance and Policy Committee,” West said. “The average cost of center-based childcare is over $20,000 for infants. We have also lost thousands of family child care providers in the last several years. Those are two big problems I am preparing to tackle with the help of all the members on my committee.”

In addition to his chairman duties, West also will be serving the Ways and Means Committee, as well as the committee on commerce. He said he will also be working on sports betting legislation this session.

West said he welcomes correspondence throughout the session and encourages District 32A residents to call (651) 296-4226 or email rep.nolan.west@house.mn to get in touch. He also provides periodic email updates and citizens can sign up to receive them at his official state website: www.house.mn/32a.
