ST. PAUL – State Rep. Lisa Demuth, R-Cold Spring, announces the city of Cold Spring has been awarded a $951,330 grant to assist Cold Spring Brewing Company in the expansion of its facility.
The award is from the Minnesota Department of Economic Development and its Greater Minnesota Business Development Infrastructure Grant Program.
“This is great news for local workers and our local economy in general,” Demuth said. “This project is an example of how private and public collaboration can bring new economic development to parts of the state such as ours. Congratulations to everyone involved in tis successful grant application. I look forward to seeing the positive impacts this project brings our area through new jobs and a bump to the local economy.”
According to DEED, the city plans to construct two new wells and a dedicated water line in order to provide raw water to Cold Spring Brewing Company. The brewer uses reverse osmosis to purify the raw water for their products and will need additional and dependable raw water in order to continue and expand their current operations and production.
DEED also indicates Cold Spring Brewing Company plans to accommodate their growth by constructing a $37 million, 702,000-square foot distribution facility at its current campus. The company currently employs 600 people and the project plans to employ an additional 117 workers earning an average of $25 per hour. The city will provide the matching funds needed for the project, DEED said.
Demuth said DEED is planning to formally announce the Cold Spring award in January.
