ST. PAUL – State Rep. Lisa Demuth, R-Cold Spring, has received an award for her legislative efforts to support small businesses.
The state’s major small-business group, the National Federation of Independent Business Minnesota, recently issued Demuth its Guardian of Small Business award. The NFIB indicated Demuth’s recognition was based on votes she took during the 2019-20 sessions of the Minnesota Legislature. In an announcement, the NFIB said Demuth “has been a real friend of small business and a voice for restraint, opposing several negative bills that were passed in the Minnesota House that were detrimental for small business.”
The NFIB specifically identified Demuth’s opposition to both a 70-percent increase in the state’s gas tax and a $1 billion paid family leave program that would have placed a new tax on every employer and worker in the state.
“Small businesses are the backbone of our economy and I continue working to make Minnesota a better home for entrepreneurs,” Demuth said. “The paid leave program is something a number of local business owners have expressed great concern to me about and I am happy to serve as their voice at the Capitol. I am honored to receive this award and look forward to working together with our local business community to reinvigorate our economy and get our state back on track after the setbacks experienced during recent months.”
