Dear Neighbor,
From the Demuth family to you and yours, merry Christmas and a happy New Year.
As we celebrate this joyous season, please remember the holidays can be a difficult time for many people. Please do what you can to lend help, whether it is making charitable donations, shoveling for someone who needs a hand or taking any other kind actions that suit you. This also is a good time to check in with friends and family who may really appreciate a quick call/message.
In other news:
2023 session approaching
The 2023 legislative session will begin Jan. 3 and I look forward to taking on the challenges that await our return to the Capitol. A $17.6 billion surplus is projected for Minnesota, so tax relief will be a top priority for me this session.
We should spend most of the next session working to give as much of it back to Minnesotans as possible. Tax hikes of any kind should be complete non-starters. Families deserve their money back as they continue to deal with the high cost of groceries, home heating bills, and other everyday necessities. I am ready to roll up my sleeves and work with the majorities in the House and Senate to deliver the tax cuts that were promised to Minnesotans, law enforcement funding for to help our communities strengthen public safety, and more.
New House structure
Housekeeping tasks are a part of every new biennium, especially with new committee structures to form and new members to bring into the fold. Personnel changes also often take place at this time and I am humbled to have recently been named the next Minority Leader of the Minnesota House of Representatives.
It's an honor to earn the support of my colleagues to serve as the next Leader of the House Republican Caucus. I will continue to keep the focus squarely on the priorities of Minnesota families — most notably delivering tax relief, supporting law enforcement and ensuring affordable, reliable energy for Minnesotans.
New legislative districts
A new set of legislative districts will go into effect at the start of the session. New boundaries are drawn once per decade to accommodate for population changes and maintain balance in representation. While the district I represent remains “13A” by name, the borders have been altered so some current constituents will have new representation at the Capitol when the new session starts. The state’s “Who Represents Me?” search tool can provide quick clarification where needed.
Look for more news and notes from the Capitol as the new session begins. Until then, have a safe and happy holiday season. Your input is welcome, and you can reach me by emailing rep.lisa.demuth@house.mn or by calling (651) 296-4373.
Sincerely,
Lisa
