Dear Neighbors,
We are now wrapping up the second week of the 2025 session and House Republicans continue working hard at the Capitol to do the work Minnesotans sent us to St. Paul to do.
Here’s a look at this week’s notes:
March for Life rally at Capitol
Per usual, there was an amazing turnout this week for the annual March for Life rally at the Capitol. The people’s outpouring of support and display of unity for the unborn always is great to see. Area State Reps. Tim O'Driscoll and Bernie Perryman (pictured above with me) also enjoyed participating!
Cracking down on fraud House Republicans created a new Fraud Prevention and State Agency Oversight Policy Committee this session and now we are following up with bills to tackle significant problems in our state. In fact, the first three bills we introduced this session are aimed at stopping fraud. The bills we have introduced (I have co-authored each) will establish a centralized Office of the Inspector General to combat fraud and abuse in state government (including requiring a fraud reporting hotline and mandating agencies to halt payments when fraud is suspected), strengthen grant management requirements, mandate fraud reporting, and establish criminal penalties for violations to protect taxpayer dollars, among other measures. |
Working for an affordable Minnesota Minnesotans have been suffering under a combination of historic inflation, reckless spending and unnecessary tax increases. House Republicans are doing the work to make Minnesota a more affordable place to live, work, and raise a family. Three of the first 10 bills we introduced this session are part of our “Make Minnesota Affordable” initiative. Together, they focus on lowering energy costs, reducing the tax burden on Minnesota families, and ensuring budget surpluses benefit hardworking Minnesotans. This includes repealing state provisions that hurt family budgets, such as the automatic gas tax increase, delivery taxes, social security taxes, and policies that are driving up our energy costs. Personal meetings I’ve enjoyed meeting with numerous groups and individuals in St. Paul, including Minnesota Police and Peace Officers Association and Emergency Medical Services representatives. I strongly support these groups and the work they do, and look forward to our continued collaboration on solutions throughout this session. Please let me know if you would like to meet to discuss issues that are important to you or your organization. Watch for more on these and other issues from the Capitol soon, especially as we continue rolling out our top priorities for this year. House Republicans are making good progress early in the session and I look forward to the day House Democrats end their boycott and join us at the Capitol. Sincerely, Lisa |
