Dear Nitty Gritty Granite City Neighbors,
We’ve got a week left, but this is already the snowiest February on record for Minnesota! I hope you can take a break from scraping off your car to read about some exciting things at the legislature and in our community.
#FinishNorthstar
It’s been a long time coming, but we finally have bipartisan legislation that provides funding and accountability measures for the initial steps of extending the Northstar Commuter Rail Line to St. Cloud. My bill (HF 1179) is not only getting a hearing, it’s getting a hearing right here in St. Cloud. If you’re able, please join me tomorrow for a field hearing of the House Transportation Committee, where members of the community will be testifying on this bill.
You can read more about our efforts to #FinishNorthstar here.
Bernick’s Tour
Shout out to the folks at Bernick’s who invited me on a tour of their beverage distribution facility the other week. Bernick’s is a family-owned business in Central Minnesota, and has been since 1916. They employ over 750 people, but best of all, they’re making sure local retailers are stocked with my favorite drinks!
First Bill Hearing
I had my first bill hearing in the House Tax Committee this week. My bill (HF 869) would establish a better timeline for construction material suppliers to make their sales tax payment during the construction season. It’s tradition for first-term representatives to bring treats for the committee the first time they present a bill, and while HF 869 is a good bill, the scones I brought from Good Earth Food Co-op definitely helped put my bill over the top.
Stay In Touch
As always, I want to hear from you. I believe that work here at the Minnesota State Legislature is done best when voices from the community are heard, and I always want to hear yours. You can call me at (651) 296-6612, or email me at rep.dan.wolgamott@house.mn. My office in St. Paul is Room 401 in the State Office Building. I look forward to hearing from you.
Stay Warm & Go Huskies!
