Legislative Update - Emergency Town Hall on COVID-19 Economic Relief

Wednesday, November 25, 2020

Rep. Wolgamott

Dear Granite City Neighbors,

I hope you and yours are healthy as we prepare for a Thanksgiving that will look different for many of us tomorrow. Regardless of what you have planned, I hope you find a moment tomorrow to reflect on what you’re thankful for. For me, I know that’s the health and safety of my family, and the continued strength of our community during these challenging times. And televised football.

Emergency Town Hall on COVID-19 Economic Relief

The recent measures to curb the spread of COVID-19 throughout our state are similar to the steps we took earlier this year, and though these measures are necessary, the negative impact on our local businesses and workers must also be addressed.

My colleagues and I in the DFL House have been working with Governor Walz to put forward new economic relief proposals, and to that end I want to hear from local businesses and workers on how these proposals would impact you.

COVID Town Hall

Since we’ll be moving on these proposals quickly, I will be hosting an Emergency Virtual Town Hall on COVID-19 Economic Relief on Monday, November 30, at 6:00pm. I will be joined by Majority Leader Ryan Winkler and Rep. Mohamud Noor, the Vice Chair of the House Jobs and Economic Development Finance Division.

We’ll be hosting this on Zoom, and those interested in joining can RSVP to my legislative assistant at Kyle.Smith@House.mn, and provide their name, address, and the name of their business/workplace (if applicable). This event is an opportunity to give Central Minnesota businesses, workers, and families the opportunity to share their thoughts and feedback with myself and other key lawmakers as we craft this emergency legislation, and I hope you’re able to join us.

COVIDaware MN

This week, Governor Walz also shared a new tool to help keep Minnesotans informed as cases increase across the state. COVIDaware MN is a free mobile app that can alert people if someone they’ve been in close contact with – even someone they don’t know – contracts the virus. The app is free, voluntary, and anonymous. You can download it and learn more here.

It’s highly likely that we’ll have one at least more special session in December, but after that we’ll be back to our regular legislative schedule with our newly elected members in January. You can stay up to date on our work by subscribing to these legislative updates here (and be sure to share with others who may be interested), and “liking” my official Facebook page.

We have challenging times ahead, but I remain confident that there’s no issue we cannot face when we do so together. If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to reach out to me at (651) 296-6612, or email me at rep.dan.wolgamott@house.mn. I look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

Rep. Dan Wolgamott
