Dear Granite City Neighbors,

As 2023 comes to a close, I want to thank you for entrusting me with the honor of serving you in the Minnesota House of Representatives. This year, I leveraged my leadership position of Speaker Pro Tempore to ensure the unique needs of our community were heard loud and clear at the Capitol, resulting in historic victories for the people of St. Cloud.

Thanks to your support, we cut through the gridlock and delivered life-changing investments in education, public safety, infrastructure, and the largest tax cut in state history! We made healthcare more affordable, lowered property taxes for seniors, had the backs of law enforcement, funded improvements to local roads and bridges, and so much more.

I’m proud of the historic year for St. Cloud at the legislature, but there’s always more work to do to make our community a better place to live, work, and raise a family. I’m eager to build off our past successes and continue working together to achieve meaningful results. You’re my boss and I work for you, so always feel free to reach out and let me know how I can best serve you and your loved ones.

Here’s a quick update of what I’ve been up to lately:

Standing with Our Somali Neighbors

This week, I stood with my Somali American colleagues and community leaders to help raise awareness of the deadly torrential rains and floods that have devastated more than 2 million people in Somalia.

As Minnesotans, we look out for our neighbors, including the 86,000 Somali Americans that call our state home - many of whom have loved ones directly threatened by these floods.

Minnesota's Somali Leaders

We want to assure Somali Americans living here in St. Cloud and throughout Minnesota that we care for them and their family members living in Somalia. We are using our platform to urge a global, statewide, and local action to provide support and relief to the region. You can read more about this issue here

St. Cloud Medical School approved by University of Minnesota Regents

We’re one step closer to bringing a new medical school to St. Cloud! While 20% of the U.S. population lives in rural communities, only 11% of physicians practice in rural communities. The CentraCare/U of M medical school will help us tackle the Greater Minnesota healthcare workforce shortage.

KNSI Story

Expected to open in 2025, the program plans to enroll 20-24 students in year one, and approximately 80-96 students as the program develops. Access to quality healthcare should not be limited by your zip code, that’s why next year I’ll be fighting for the investment this crucial school deserves!

Meeting with Stearns County Sheriffs and Chiefs of Police

This year, I partnered with law enforcement to get them the support they need to keep us safe. We prioritized recruitment funding to get more cops on our streets, passed common-sense gun violence prevention measures, and delivered $300 million in public safety aid.

This week, I met with Stearns County Chiefs of Police to discuss the public safety aid we delivered, and its impact on our community. We are fortunate to have exemplary police in St. Cloud, and the additional support delivered to them this year will give them more tools, resources, and support in their work to keep us safe. I look forward to our continued partnership in building a safer Minnesota when the legislature convenes next year.

The Cold Weather Rule

As we near the end of the year, and cold weather sets in, a quick reminder that Minnesota’s “cold weather rule” is now in effect, which protects residents from having their electric or natural gas service shut off between October 1 and April 30.

Cold Weather Rule

To ensure your service is safe from disconnection, you must make and keep a payment plan that you and your utility provider agree on. More information is available on the Minnesota Department of Commerce’s website.

Stay Connected

As I get ready for the 2024 legislative session, please stay in touch and let me know if you have any questions or feedback about the things mentioned in this email or anything else, and let me know if I can be of service to you in any way.

Happy Holidays

Wishing you and yours a joy-filled holiday season!

Sincerely,

Rep. Dan Wolgamott
