Rep. Shane Mekeland statement re: DEED issues funding to Sherburne County

Friday, December 20, 2019

ST. PAUL – State Rep. Shane Mekeland, R-Clear Lake, issued the following statement in response to the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development announcing it has awarded $761,669 to Sherburne County from the Transportation Economic Development Infrastructure (TEDI) program. DEED indicates the funding will assist in the reconstruction and expansion of County Road 53, providing improved access to the Becker Business Park.

“This is a step in the right direction as plans evolve to develop around 1,300 acres in the Becker Business Park,” Mekeland said. “I will continue working to help deliver new projects and uses for this property as we aim to bring new jobs and economic development to our region. Our goal should be to not only offset losses related to changes occurring at Sherco plant, but to capitalize on this opportunity to spur a whole new era of economic growth in the Becker area.”
