Dear Neighbors,
This last week has been the busiest week I have experienced at the Capitol yet. Between bill hearings (I had several, and occasionally more than one at the same time), constituent meetings, regularly scheduled committee hearings, and floor sessions, we have plenty to keep us busy up here in St. Paul. Our work will only ramp up as the weather gets warmer, and with the governor releasing his budget a couple weeks ago, now the negotiations begin.
Committee Deadlines
Last Friday was the first committee deadline, which means that any policy bill has to have been heard in at least one committee by Friday at midnight, or it is essentially dead for the remainder of this session. Not to worry though! I have already presented many bills in various committees, and will continue to work on passing legislation that will benefit our community and our state. You can see the bills that I have chief authored by clicking here.
Disaster Recovery Loan Program
This week, the House followed the Senate in passing the Disaster Recovery Loan Program (SF 2225). This will retroactively assist farmers and other agricultural workers who have been harmed during this unusually harsh winter. Things such as barn roofs collapsing, being forced to sell their herd, and more. This bill passed unanimously out of the House, and you can watch the floor discussion including my comments below: |

Constituents at the Capitol
It’s always a pleasure to meet with constituents. This week, I was able to meet with many distinguished members within our community. On Thursday, North Mankato Mayor Mark Dehen stopped by my office, I had a lunch meeting with President Bergman from Gustavus Adolphus College, and members of the Saint Peter Power Up Clubhouse and Sibley County Connection Clubhouse for Mental Health Day on the Hill.
Earlier in the week I was able to meet with a group of insurance agents from our area, along with the Farm Bureau members from Nicollet & Le Sueur County. I always appreciate hearing what my constituents have to say about the work we do up here, and I hope you will take the opportunity to stop by if you are ever in the area.
