Rep. Jeff Brand votes in favor of Earned Sick & Safe Time for all Minnesota workers
SAINT PAUL, Minn. – Last night, the Minnesota House approved legislation authored by Rep. Liz Olson (DFL – Duluth) to expand Earned Sick and Safe Time benefits to all Minnesota workers. House File 19 passed on a vote of 69-54. The bill would ensure, at a minimum, one hour of paid Earned Sick and Safe Time for every 30 hours worked for all Minnesota workers, up to at least 48 hours per year.
Rep. Jeff Brand (DFL – Saint Peter) is a co-author of the legislation and voted to support it.
“For too long, Minnesotans have had to decide between a paycheck and taking time off to care for themselves and that is wholly unacceptable,” said Rep. Brand. “Passing this bill will make Minnesota a much safer & more supportive place to raise a family. This is something DFLers have been trying to get done for years, and I’m grateful that we’re supporting workers and families by finally getting the job done on their behalf.”
In the Senate, the bill is making its way through committee hearings.
