Rep. Jeff Brand statement on the passage of Amara’s Law
SAINT PAUL, Minn. - Today, the Minnesota House of Representatives approved the conference committee report on H.F. 2310, the 2023 Environment, Natural Resources, Climate, and Energy Budget Bill. The final version includes the PFAS prevention package, with multiple pieces of legislation setting water standards and banning non-essential PFAS use in a variety of products. The PFAS-related pieces of the bill are honorarily named “Amara’s Law” in honor of Amara Strande, a young woman from Oakdale who died last month of a rare form of cancer caused by PFAS. She was 20 years old.
Representative Jeff Brand (DFL — Saint Peter) authored Amara’s law and voted to support the bill. He issued the following statement.
“Amara tirelessly advocated for the passage of the package in her final months, and I’m incredibly grateful to her and the Strande family for helping us get this done for Minnesota. I’m also thankful to my colleagues on both sides of the aisle for your willingness to come together and start doing the work to solve this problem. We have a long way to go to get PFAS out of our daily lives, but this bill puts us on the right path. Today as we pass legislation to ensure a brighter, cleaner future for Minnesotan families, we honor Amara.”
