MAPLE GROVE, MN — State Representative Kristin Robbins, R- Maple Grove, issued the following statement regarding the budget update released Tuesday by Minnesota Management and Budget showing a $2.426 billion deficit, and a $3.6 billion overall drop in revenue.
"Today’s budget update shows that our state is seeing the same financial difficulties that families and businesses are facing. Businesses that are closed and employees who have lost their jobs do not pay taxes, which will significantly reduce revenues to the state, while also increasing costs for safety net programs. The $1.5 billion projected surplus has been eliminated and the newly projected deficit will also consume the $2.36 billion in the "rainy day" budget reserve. The governor should work with the legislature to face this new reality as we will have to have some very long and difficult budgetary conversations."
