The research and public health data indicate that the virus is spread most in places where people gather for long periods of time, especially when masks are not consistently worn. For instance, a quick stop at a retail store with a mask and social distancing appears to be lower risk than a gathering of friends for dinner where guests are likely to be seated closer together and unmasked while eating or drinking—whether it’s at a restaurant or in their own home.
As much as we love our uncle's jokes, hugging grandma, or playing with our sweet nieces and nephews, in order to all celebrate all together one day soon when it is safe, today we must get creative in celebrating apart. I personally am planning to bake a batch of my buns with orange and cardamom to deliver to my loved ones. While we may not be in the same room, we can still feast on the shared experience of food made with love.
I’m confident we can protect public health, jobs, and our businesses with this forward-thinking mindset and practical public policy. We’re working hard at the state level on controlling and combatting the virus, but there are limits to what we can accomplish, and we need the federal government to step up – now. I have signed onto a joint letter from Minnesota legislators urging our members of Congress to quickly approve more federal COVID-19 aid as soon as possible. Minnesotans and our small businesses cannot and should not wait in a time of crisis.
In the meantime, getting tested is highly encouraged. All COVID-19 testing is no cost at Minnesota community testing sites. For our neighbors in the North Metro, the nearest location to get a saliva test ( which are less invasive, and usually have quicker results) is at the Brooklyn Park Starlite Center (Former Office Max building next to the Panda Garden Buffet, just east of Jolly Lane), 8085 Brooklyn Blvd, Brooklyn Park, MN 55428.
It is quick and easy to get tested and keep those around you safe.

Largest Bonding Bill Passed in State History
I am pleased to share that the Minnesota House and Senate passed a robust, bipartisan Jobs and Infrastructure bill last month, which has many great provisions for our Maple Grove and Osseo residents. The legislation funds improvements to upgrade the Maple Grove Public Safety training facility that serves law enforcement at all levels- Maple Grove Police Officers, all the way up to the F.B.I. The expansion of the facility will also provide our officers the ability to partake in de-escalation and situational training, allowing them to better serve the public and gain the necessary skills to go home safe to their own families at the end of the day. I am so proud to support our officers and safer communities. The final legislation also includes bond funding to add a lane to Highway 94 and the 610 interchange near the Maple Grove Hospital. This is the final piece of the project in Maple Grove to complete the 610 project, also known as the crosstown of the North.
A full list of the projects included can be accessed here.
Keep in Touch
Promising news about an effective vaccine is encouraging, but public health experts and vaccine producers are telling us that widespread distribution will not happen until well into 2021. In the meantime, let’s work together to follow public health guidelines to protect one another: staying home when we can; wearing a mask; washing our hands frequently; distancing socially; and getting tested.
Please don’t hesitate to reach out anytime if you need help or have any questions at rep.kristin.bahner@house.mn or 651-296-5502.
It’s an honor to serve you and our Maple Grove and Osseo communities at the State Capitol. My best wishes for a holiday filled with health and happiness.
Sincerely,
Kristin Bahner
