Thursday, December 16, 2021

Saint Paul, Minn. – An estimated 50 new jobs are coming to Maple Grove from the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED)-administered Minnesota Investment Fund (MIF). Pelican Bio Thermal, LLC, of Maple Grove has been awarded $315,000 to assist in temperature-controlled packaging for the life science industry. This company is now a major source of packaging for COVID-19 vaccines. In addition to the MIF award, Pelican Bio Thermal, LCC is investing $728,000 in expanding manufacturing capacity and automation. DEED estimates that the average wage of the created jobs would be approximately $24.47 per hour.

“As we strengthen our efforts to keep Minnesotans safe throughout the pandemic, ensuring we have critical infrastructure in place to store vaccines is essential,” said Rep. Kristin Bahner (DFL-Maple Grove). “It’s no secret Maple Grove is a significant hub for innovation and entrepreneurship, which provides good paying jobs. I’m grateful for the Minnesota Investment Fund partnership in collaboration with Pelican Bio Thermal which allows communities to flourish through continued growth and contributions to the COVID-19 response.”

The MIF fund is centered on industrial, manufacturing, and technology-related businesses to increase the local and state tax base and improve economic vitality statewide. MIF provides loans of up to $1 million to businesses that create and retain high-quality jobs in these sectors.
