Reminder: COVID-19 Disability Listening Sessions Tomorrow

Friday, May 8, 2020

Dear Neighbors,

Here’s a reminder that tomorrow from 10am-12pm, you’re invited to join me and my colleagues Rep. Hunter Cantrell of Savage and Rep. Ruth Richardson of Mendota Heights for a listening session about COVID-19’s impacts on those with disabilities. The first half will be devoted to learning the concerns of people with disabilities, and then caregivers and providers will have a chance to share their perspectives in the second half of the event.

House Approves COVID-19 Economic Security Package

Yesterday, the House approved our COVID-19 Economic Security Act, which helps Minnesotans who are struggling during this crisis. One of the key measures in the legislation delivers a temporary 15 percent rate increase for personal care assistance (PCA) services during the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as other modifications to help them more deliver care to vulnerable people, including those with disabilities. PCAs are dedicated to ensuring their clients can live with dignity in their home and community. I recognize we have some long-term challenges to strengthen the PCA workforce, but this legislation will help ensure PCAs have economic security during this crisis.

Additionally, the bill invests $100 million in housing assistance, provides loans to small businesses, and invests in broadband, with funding aimed at ensuring students can access school lessons and their teachers during the distance learning period. You can learn more about the bill here.

Don’t hesitate to contact me if I can be of assistance or to share your feedback. Please call me at 651-296-0141 or email me. Also, if you don’t already, I invite you to “like” or “follow” my Facebook page.

Please take care of yourself and your family, and let’s all keep taking all the responsible steps to move past this pandemic.

Sincerely,

Kelly Moller
State Representative
