Last week, Minnesota surpassed 3,000 COVID-19 deaths. We must listen to our health care professionals – like the doctors and nurses working grueling schedules as they treat patients around the clock – and take this immediate threat seriously.
There’s no question the recently announced, four-week dial back will be difficult. To deliver the level of relief our small businesses deserve to weather this crisis, we need the federal government to step up and deliver a robust aid package. That’s why I signed a letter, with my colleagues, to our federal delegation asking that Congress pass such a package. In the meantime, the legislature is examining what we can do at the State level to provide relief. We can individually support our favorite small businesses by ordering takeout meals as able or purchasing gift cards. And we can also help our community by doing our part to contain the virus so we can resume more activities.
COVID-19 Testing Options
There are several new options for getting tested for COVID-19, including a version delivered to your home. If you have symptoms, or have come in contact with someone with COVID-19, you should get tested. Community testing sites throughout the state are free and open to everyone, whether or not you have symptoms or insurance. If you do not have symptoms, it is best to get tested at least five days after the last time you were close to a person with COVID-19. With the surge in cases, note that it may take several days to get your results.
You can find more information on testing options here.
New COVID-19 Exposure App
Today, Governor Walz announced a groundbreaking new app to help track COVID-19 in our state. The app, COVIDaware MN, will notify you if you’ve been in close contact with someone who has reported testing positive for the virus. Participation is voluntary and anonymous; no personal information is collected, stored, or shared. You can download the app on the Apple App Store or from Google Play.
