Dear Neighbors,
I hope you and your family are doing well this fall. As the leaves change color, now is the perfect time to take a road trip to see the vibrant colors across our state. The Minnesota DNR has a helpful Fall Color Finder tool that not only maps the best locations but includes regular reports from Minnesota state parks.
It’s also time for Shoreview’s Fall Cleanup Day Saturday. This is a good opportunity to dispose of items not normally accepted during regular garbage pickup like appliances, TVs, mattresses, carpet and more. Items can be brought to McCullough Park from 7am to noon. More information is available here.
I recently had the tremendous honor to receive the Gold WATCH Award from the Advocates for Human Rights. The goal of the WATCH project is to make the justice system more effective and responsive in handling cases of violence against women and children, and to create a more informed and involved public. This legislative session, I was the chief author of legislation to strengthen Minnesota’s criminal sexual conduct laws, enacting recommendations from a survivor-led working group that identified shortcomings and loopholes which had prevented justice from being delivered in too many cases.
Minnesotans who experience the trauma of sexual assault deserve to know they will have a pathway to justice. Unfortunately, Minnesota’s criminal sexual conduct laws fell short of this expectation, and lawmakers had a responsibility to solve this problem. I’m grateful to the Advocates for Human Rights for the honor of receiving the Gold WATCH Award and for their partnership in advancing this important work to protect victims and survivors.
KARE 11 recently highlighted the changes in the law, which took effect September 15.
Ramsey County is exploring options for a potential future trail on Lake Johanna Boulevard between Snelling Avenue North and County Road D in Arden Hills. As part of their study, Ramsey County is engaging the community to gather feedback and a virtual meeting is scheduled for next, Tuesday, October 12 at 7 p.m. More information about the meeting and the overall project is available here.
As we look ahead to the 2022 legislative session and beyond, my colleagues in the House and I are looking to hear from Minnesotans about what’s going well for them, as well as their aspirations and roadblocks to achieving their goals.
Please take the Minnesota Values Project Survey. It’s short – only four questions – and will help us develop solutions to address short term needs and make the significant changes necessary to improve people’s lives over the long haul. We deeply value your feedback!
