St. Paul, MN – The Bureau of Criminal Apprehension released the 2022 Uniform Crime Report Monday showing an 8.6% decrease in violent crime across Minnesota. State Representative Kelly Moller (DFL - Shoreview), Chair of the House Public Safety Committee, released the following statement:
“While we still have room for more progress, I am pleased that crime rates across Minnesota are headed in the correct direction,” said Rep. Moller. “I am confident that we will continue to see further reductions as the provisions in our Public Safety and Judiciary budget bill begin to take effect. Our efforts responded to the immediate needs of law enforcement while investing heavily in preventative measures that will show efficacy further down the line. I look forward to continuing our important work and responding to any new developments, so we can maintain these positive trends.”
Violent crime in Minnesota accounted for 6.1 percent of all offenses reported in 2022. There were 16,119 total violent crimes for the year. Compared with the 17,631 total violent crimes reported for 2021, the 2022 figure represents a decrease of 8.6 percent in violent crime for the state. The number of violent crimes for the state was 281.9 per 100,000 population.
Murder decreased by 9.45 percent.
Rape decreased by 5.78 percent.
Robbery decreased by 18.16 percent.
Aggravated Assault decreased by 5.69 percent.
