End of Year Legislative Update

Thursday, December 19, 2024

Dear Neighbors,

With the holiday season just around the corner, I wanted to send you one final update for the year. First, I’d like to share a few of the best ways for you to follow my work in 2025. You can learn about bills that have been introduced here and keep track of the bills I’ve authored here. If you have neighbors, friends, or family who you think would find these updates valuable, please share this with them; they can subscribe here. I also encourage you to follow me on Facebook.

Committee Assignments

As you may have heard, the House is tied between the DFL and GOP for the first time in fifty years. This is a nearly unprecedented situation, so we’ll all be learning together as session moves forward. However, as has been my practice, I will continue working across the aisle to pass important legislation and will continue to fight for our community’s needs. Given the tie, we will be co-chairing committees. I will serve as Co-Chair of Public Safety Finance and Policy, Co-Chair of Ethics, and am serving on the Ways and Means and Judiciary Finance and Civil Law Committees.

Chippewa Middle School Named 2024 Blue Ribbon School

I’d like to give a quick shout out to Chippewa Middle School for being a National Blue Ribbon School! This means they are recognized for excelling in academic performance or making significant strides in closing achievement gaps among different student groups.?I’m very grateful that our community has such a wonderful asset. My kids attended Chippewa, so I know first-hand just how deserving this wonderful school and its amazing staff are of this award.

Safe Passage for Children Award

Over the interim, I received the 2024 Child Safety MVP Award for my bipartisan work with Rep. Jim Nash to protect Minnesota’s children from abuse and neglect. I was honored to work on this bill and to receive this award from the Safe Passage for Children of Minnesota.

Fairness in Ticketing Bill

My bill to create price transparency and other consumer protections for Minnesotans purchasing event tickets goes into effect January 1, 2025. You can watch a news story about it here.
