Dear Neighbors,
I hope you had a wonderful weekend. We’re seeing a lot of activity in committee and with advocacy groups visiting the Capitol.
Here’s an update from St. Paul:
Addressing Senseless Gun Violence
February 14 marked the one year anniversary of the Parkland, FL massacre at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. A memorial took place that afternoon in the Rotunda, where members of the public, legislators, and advocates read the names of Minnesotans who have died at the hands of a firearm, whether through gun violence or suicide. The Star Tribune covered the memorial here.
I’m committed to doing all I can at the state level to keep everyone safe in school, places of worship, movie theatres, restaurants, on the farm, and in other public spaces.
Field Hearings & Tours
Minnesotans expect their legislators to be accessible and meet with them in their own communities, which is why the House Majority is holding a variety of official “field hearings” outside of the Capitol to allow more Minnesotans to participate in the law-making process and shape what their state government looks like. I am looking forward to partnering with communities throughout our state on a variety of issues that address all geographical needs.
Last week, the Agriculture and Food Finance and Policy Committee toured Minnesota Food and Ag Safety labs on Friday. I was glad to see many products manufactured by Plymouth-based Nuaire, as their products are used as an important part of our food system safety measures. |

Sovereignty Day at the Capitol
For the first time in history, it was an honor to welcome tribal leaders from 11 sovereign nations to the Minnesota House of Representatives to educate legislators on their history and communities. We are all committed to working together to learn how to improve government-to- government relations.

Increasing the Standard Deduction for Seniors & Minnesotans who are Legally Blind
I’ve sponsored legislation that would increase the additional standard deduction for senior citizens and Minnesotans who are legally blind. With these middle class families living on fixed incomes, while encountering rising costs like prescription drugs and groceries, this bill will help alleviate some of the financial burden. HF 1032 awaits a public hearing in the House Taxes Committee.
