Dear Neighbors,
I hope this finds you well. As we’re wrapping up our eighth week at the Legislature, several proposals are receiving public committee hearings which has brought hundreds of visitors from across the state. I value the opportunity to listen to diverse viewpoints and perspectives.
Here is an update from the Capitol.
Plymouth Bill Receives a Public Hearing
On Monday, I presented HF 877, which would direct local lodging tax revenue to our public infrastructure improvement projects including our Plymouth Ice Center and our Plymouth Creek Center. It was great to have City Manager Dave Callister and Mayor Jeff Wosje testify in support of the legislation. |

Forever Green Initiative
Today Rep. Jeff Brand and I held a press conference on our bill to fully fund the U of M’s Forever Green Initiative. This program employs cutting-edge research focused on developing cover cropping and perennial plant systems that keep the land covered 365 days a year.
This important work has been decades in the making. It delivers new economic opportunities for farmers, protects their important wellheads, and slows nitrate runoff. Forever Green is a win-win for our cities, rural regions, our agriculture and our food.

Gun Violence Prevention Bills
Minnesotans have been loud and clear that they want their legislators to address the epidemic of senseless gun violence in our communities. My colleagues and I are committed to common-sense solutions like criminal background checks on all gun sales.
On Wednesday evening and today, the Public Safety Committee held hearings on two bills related to this issue. HF 8 improves background checks, and HF 9, the ‘red flag’ bill, would enact extreme risk protection orders to keep guns out of the hands of dangerous people using due process.
Capitol Visitors
Robbinsdale students came to visit to discuss needs of their district and how a thought becomes law. It’s always rewarding listening to our young leaders’ ideas for a brighter future. |

| Plymouth residents came to talk about how together we can prevent students from starting to smoke and help current smokers quit. I appreciated hearing from Orla, a high school junior, about the importance of these issues to her. |
