Dear Neighbors,
The Legislature is on its annual spring recess this week in observance of Easter and Passover. Legislative business at the Capitol resumes on Tuesday, April 23, at which point the House of Representatives will begin approving the major components of our Minnesota Values Budget.
I’m back in Plymouth, connecting with neighbors, friends and family. I had the opportunity to meet with Superintendent Anderson from Wayzata Public Schools, in addition to members of the Wayzata’s Legislative Action Team. We reviewed the E-12 Education omnibus bill, and how the increased investments within the legislation will benefit ISD #284. The E-12 Education bill is the first order of business we are taking up when we return from the recess. I’ve also got some light reading planned related to the legislation I’m working on for Plymouth.
I’d like to share some good news I received recently. Here’s an update from Plymouth:
The Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) announced this week that Northrop Grumman plans to improve their existing 191,000 square foot facility in Plymouth, Minnesota, and is expected to create more than 60 new high quality jobs during the next three years.
Northrop Grumman is a leading global security company providing innovative systems, products and solutions in autonomous systems, cyber, C4ISR, space, strike, and logistics and modernization to customers worldwide.
DEED is supporting the project with a $600,000 loan from the Minnesota Investment Fund, and $700,000 from the Job Creation Fund. This fund is a pay-for-performance program that provides funding to businesses after they meet certain criteria, including minimum requirements for job creation and private investments. To be eligible in the Twin Cities metro, businesses must create at least 10 full-time jobs and invest at least $500,000.
The Minnesota Investment Fund provides loans and grants to companies that create and retain high-quality jobs with a focus on industrial, manufacturing and technology-related industries to increase local and state tax bases and improve the economic vitality for all Minnesotans.
I look forward to this exciting expansion and the good jobs it will bring to Plymouth.
