Dear Neighbors,
For thousands of students across the state, it was the first day of school! Many started last week as well, and I wish everyone a great start to the school year.
Every child deserves a world-class education, which is why the House DFL Majority fought for substantial investments in our students and schools across the state. Despite challenges under a divided state legislature, our local school districts will see a per-student funding increase over the next two years, continued voluntary pre-K opportunities, and more resources to help address special education funding shortfalls.

| There’s more to do to ensure our students can be set up for success inside and outside of the classroom. As a member of the Higher Education Finance and Policy Division, I’ll continue working on ways we can strengthen post-secondary paths to college and the workforce for Minnesotans. |

Insulin
Since the 2019 session adjourned in May, the Minnesota Legislature has been holding a series of meetings to discuss strategies for affordable and accessible insulin. Consensus was recently reached on the framework of an insulin assistance program, although its funding mechanisms differ in the House and Senate. I, along with my House DFL colleagues are advocating for imposing a fee on insulin manufacturers who are profiting from the soaring prices. Conversely, my colleagues on the other side of the aisle are insisting that it be funded by Minnesota taxpayers, which I’m strongly against.
We held our first community roundtable on affordable insulin in August. Minnesotans who depend on insulin for themselves and their families and have experienced high costs joined legislators to discuss the next steps to solve this crisis facing far too many Minnesotans. I participated in the dialogue and you can find my comments here. |

| Bottom line: Nobody should ever have to ration or skip the medication they rely on to survive. I’ll keep working on not only affordable insulin accessibility, but for affordable health care Minnesotans need and deserve. |
