SAINT PAUL, Minn. –Rep. Ginny Klevorn (DFL-Plymouth) joined the City of Plymouth today for a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the new Rockford Road (County Road 9) Bridge over Interstate Highway 494. The bridge partially opened during the ceremony with a single lane in each direction on the north side.
Originally constructed in 1964, Rockford Road Bridge has been identified as one of the most dangerous interchanges in Hennepin County. Approximately 40,000 vehicles use the bridge every day to cross or enter Interstate Highway 494. State legislators secured $9.72 million in public infrastructure funds in 2018 and partnered with Hennepin County and the Minnesota Department of Transportation to replace the bridge and ramps to Hwy 494.
“The Rockford Road Bridge is a critical access point to Hwy 494 for Minnesotans living in or traveling through Plymouth,” said Rep. Klevorn. “Minnesotans deserve strong and reliable transportation infrastructure to stay connected to family, school, and work. I’m glad we were able to deliver these needed public safety and congestion improvements for our community.”
The project is expected to be finalized in November.
