Legislative Update- Real-ID & Presidential Primary Information

Thursday, February 20, 2020

Rep. Klevorn

Dear Neighbors,

This email serves as a friendly reminder to join me this Saturday, February 22 at Plymouth City Hall at 10:00 a.m. for a town hall meeting. I believe democracy works best when it’s accessible to everyone, so I hope you can make it to share ideas, input, and ask any questions.

Real-ID Deadline Approaching

Consider applying for a Real-ID now or when you renew your license or ID card prior to the deadline on October 1. Starting then, a Real-ID or passport will be required to board a plan or enter certain federal facilities. I’ve gotten quite a few questions about Real-ID compliancy and am monitoring the application process closely.

An infographic showing examples of Real-ID required documents is available here.? The REAL ID fact sheet and brochure serve as a helpful guide when deciding between a Real-ID-compliant driver’s license or an enhanced driver’s license.

If you have questions or concerns about the status of your license or ID card, please contact me at the Capitol at 651-296-5511 or send me an email at rep.ginny.klevorn@house.mn.

Minnesota’s Presidential Primary

Minnesota’s presidential primary election takes place Tuesday, March 3, but early voting is already underway. You can vote right now via absentee ballot, either by mail or in person at your county elections office. If you’re not sure whether you are registered to vote at your current address, you can check your registration status here.

Some of you have expressed privacy concerns when voting in the primary, which is why I’m coauthoring legislation recommended by Minnesota Secretary of State Steve Simon that would provide the option for voters to choose whether they would like their information shared. The bill would prevent the national parties from sharing the data with anyone or risk facing significant civil penalties. The law change would take effect before the data is scheduled to be transmitted to the parties.

Regardless of party affiliation, it’s important to have your voice elevated in our presidential nomination primary, and I’m taking these privacy concerns very seriously.

Pharmacy Students at the Capitol

It was great to meet with pharmacy students from the University of Minnesota today! As a member of the Higher Education Committee, it was great to hear about their experience at the U of M and to learn about their future endeavors in pharmacy. The future is bright for these individuals!
