Dear Neighbors,
As our Twin Cities neighbors continue to reel from the devastation and aftermath of the killing of George Floyd last week, I’ve received several emails and phone calls from Plymouth community members asking how they can help. The Star Tribune released a list of resources I’d recommend checking out.
Many of the small businesses impacted on Lake Street were not covered by riot insurance and are facing significant challenges around rebuilding. If you are interested in learning more about how you can help contribute toward these efforts on Lake Street specifically, click here.
Special Session
A potential special session will likely occur next week. Passage of a jobs and local projects public infrastructure bill is a top priority for me, in addition to more COVID-19 relief measures. I also expect much of our focus in the House to shift toward various, multi-faceted criminal justice reform polices that have been announced by our POCI (People of Color and Indigenous) Caucus. I am still carefully reviewing all of these recently announced proposals that were released yesterday. You can watch the POCI press conference here.
Phase II of Safely Reopening Begins
On Monday, many restaurants, bars, salons, and barbershops reopened as we entered a new phase of the Stay Safe Plan. Restaurants and bars are now able to offer outdoor dining, and salons and barbershops can operate at 25 percent occupancy. If you’d like to support our Plymouth businesses, please wear a mask, make a reservation if possible, and follow social distancing practices of six feet. Protecting yourself, other patrons, and employees will help make the gradual reopening process a success.
