New Guidance from MDH on Congregate Care
The Minnesota Department of Health recently released new guidance for long-term care facilities, which will allow family members, outside caregivers, friends, or volunteers to serve as essential caregivers for residents. This policy change will help ensure that the residents’ full range of emotional, social and physical needs are met while striking a balance between meeting residents’ needs and limiting infection risks.
Ensuring our cherished older adults can live with dignity with quality care is a top priority of mine. As a member of the Long-Term Care Division, I have been focused on crafting policies that support these values. Since the onset of COVID-19, this work is especially vital. I spoke with the Star Tribune recently about the legislation I’ve been working on to strengthen protections for our older neighbors and loved ones living in congregate care facilities amid the pandemic. Special Session Update
The legislature kicked off the second special session yesterday. While the Senate adjourned temporarily until next week, I’m still optimistically cautious we can come to an agreement on a robust jobs and local projects or “bonding” bill. Our work isn’t finished, and I haven’t stopped advocating for Plymouth and our priorities.

This is my last update until after the election.
