Promising news about an effective vaccine is encouraging, but public health experts and vaccine producers are telling us that widespread distribution will not happen until well into 2021. In the meantime, we must use all options available to get this crisis under control.
To help curb the spread, Governor Walz announced this evening the following public health guidelines:
- Minnesotans are being asked to stay home when possible. Please avoid gatherings with people outside of your household.
- Restaurants and bars are dialed back to delivery and takeout only. Gyms and fitness studios will close. Entertainment venues, event spaces, and similar establishments are also closed. These new public health guidelines will be incredibly hard on many people. That is why along with Gov. Walz, I’ve joined my colleagues in calling on the federal government to take immediate action to help our businesses and families make ends meet.
- Youth sports are on pause. The positive health impacts and unique developmental and social benefits of sports are important, but the 192 outbreaks connected to sports are too concerning to let these activities continue at this time. Sports-related cases are nearly twice as prevalent among high school-age children as any other age group, and they increasingly play a key role in the need to move schools to distance learning.
You can read more about these guidelines here.
Community Testing Sites
Getting tested, even if you do not have symptoms, is highly encouraged. All COVID-19 testing is no cost at Minnesota community testing sites. I’ve included a few convenient saliva testing locations for our Plymouth neighbors to check out:
Brooklyn Park Starlite Center Former Office Max building next to the Panda Garden Buffet, just east of Jolly Lane 8085
Brooklyn Blvd Brooklyn Park, MN 55428
Monday - Friday: 9 a.m. - 7 p.m. Saturday - Sunday: 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Minneapolis Convention Center
1301 2nd Ave South Minneapolis, MN 55403
Monday - Friday: 9 a.m. - 7 p.m. Saturday - Sunday: 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Minneapolis-Saint Paul Airport
4300 Glumack Drive St. Paul, MN 55111
Daily: 7 a.m. - 7 p.m.
Each of our individual actions have a tremendous impact on the future of our state and how we recover. In Plymouth, we care about each other and by staying vigilant and following public health guidelines- staying home when we can, washing our hands frequently, wearing a mask, socially distancing, and getting tested- we can save lives, get our kids back in the classroom, and our businesses back up and running at full capacity.
