Dear Neighbors,
My thoughts and condolences are with our Brooklyn Center neighbors, Katie and Aubrey Wright, who are mourning the loss of their child, Daunte Wright. This tragic death underscores the need to renew our efforts as lawmakers, community leaders, parents, and neighbors, to improve public safety for all, no matter where you live or the color of your skin.
As a member of the House Public Safety and Criminal Justice Reform Committee, I am committed to work with all of my legislative colleagues and our local law enforcement to build on the work we delivered last year, so everyone can get home safely. I’ve been in frequent communication with Plymouth Police Chief Fadden, House Public Safety Committee Chair Mariani, and community members about practical public safety reforms we’ve been working on since last summer. Together, we can build safe communities where all may thrive.
State Budget Work
With less than six weeks left in the legislative session, my colleagues and I have been working hard to develop a strong state budget to help us weather the ongoing pandemic’s impacts and to ensure our state is well poised in our economic recovery efforts. A couple highlights of our proposal include small business and worker support through Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) and Unemployment Insurance (UI) tax conformity, critical school aid and investments in our students, and a telehealth expansion for Minnesotans who have benefited from this health delivery model amid the pandemic (especially our rural neighbors). I’m pleased to share my bill to fund a study to examine the benefits of adding bus rapid transit to Highway 55 has been included.
