Legislative Update- April 30, 2021

Dear Neighbors,

It has been a challenging and unsettling couple of weeks in Minnesota and in our Plymouth community. I hope you have been able to take a moment to care for yourself and to check in on others. These tumultuous times are stressful for all of us in many ways. As your state legislator, my commitment to lifting up Plymouth voices remains steadfast. Please know I’m available to help if you have questions or need assistance. I’m more resolved than ever to keep us on a positive path forward and bridge divides, so we can all thrive and be safe.

At the Legislature, we’re buttoning up budget bills and conference committees have begun to meet. These committees are comprised of five House members and five Senate members to reconcile differences within each major area of the budget; ie. Taxes, Education, Transportation, etc. I’m pleased to share I’ve been appointed to the Higher Education Conference Committee, and am looking forward to contributing my mediator skills to the process. So far, we’ve met twice. You can follow along and tune in to our public meetings here.

To date, the House has passed its full budget off the House Floor. Here’s a glimpse at those if you’re interested in learning more:

I’ve been working with Transportation Chair Hornstein and my colleagues to secure the inclusion of our bill to the final Transportation Budget that would fund a bus rapid transit analysis for Highway 55. In the Tax Bill there are two provisions important to Plymouth. Included are the Plymouth Fire Station Construction Tax Refund and the Lodging Tax Sunset provision.With less than three weeks left in the legislative session, and once again working under a divided state legislature, compromise will be key. I’ll have this in mind as we work to pass a balanced two-year budget.

Vaccine Update

56% of Minnesotans 16 and older have had at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine and progress continues to improve. Johnson and Johnson vaccinations have resumed and more opportunities to get a dose at a community vaccine location are popping up every day. Here are a couple vaccine sites for you to share with your networks:

 

M Health Fairview Clinics

The Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine is offered to patients age 16 and older at the following sites:

You can schedule your appointment here. Appointments open up throughout the week; check back for additional openings. If you have technical difficulty using MyChart, call 612-336-2690 for assistance.

 

State Fair Grounds

Appointments to receive a COVID-19 Vaccine are available at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds. You can schedule an appointment by signing up for the state’s Vaccine Connector or by calling 1-833-431-2053, and support is available for multiple languages (translators are also available on-site). The location has an ADA accessible drive-through option, and free Metro Transit passes are available for everyone who registers.
