With a core goal of the plan to get 70% of Minnesotans vaccinated, doubling down our efforts to help connect people to opportunities is key. If you haven’t already, I recommend signing up for the MN Vaccine Connector to help identify nearby locations to get a dose. The vaccine is safe and effective, and the best way we can get back to the things we’ve missed over the past year. I am grateful to everyone in our Plymouth community who is volunteering in community clinics, spreading the word, providing transportation to neighbors, and helping one another during these challenging times.
BREAKING: From Legislation to Law
I’m pleased to share one of our bills has been signed into law by Governor Walz today. The new law I authored increases access to certain types of property evaluations that can be performed by appraisers and modifies continuing education course requirements for insurance, real estate, and appraiser licensees in Minnesota. The bill requires appraiser licensees to take a new course in valuation bias focused on fair housing laws and bias. This is a significant equity issue for homeowners of color, as it allows them to retain the value of their homes during a real estate transaction. It's an important first step to ending discriminatory practices in the housing market.
Conference Committee Update
You may recall, I’m serving on the Higher Education House/Senate Conference Committee and I’m pleased to report we’re making great progress. With our constitutionally required date to adjourn on May 17, we’re being judicious with time while examining all provisions with the merit they deserve. I’m particularly interested in finding ways we can adopt provisions to ease the financial burden on students and ensure they have access to strong mental health resources after the year we’ve had. Medina Road Closure
Medina Road, just west of County Road 101, will be closed May 10-21, to allow crews to install utility connections and add a turn lane for a new development. You can view the detour route here.
