Release: House Redistricting Committee Chair, Vice Chair preview new redistricting proposal

Friday, November 19, 2021

SAINT PAUL, Minn. – Today, House Redistricting Chair Mary Murphy (DFL-Hermantown) and Vice Chair Ginny Klevorn (DFL-Plymouth) held a virtual media availability to preview a new redistricting proposal for state legislative district maps. Committee members will see and discuss the proposal and what it means for state house districts in further detail at a 2:00 p.m. House Redistricting Committee meeting. No official action will be taken at today’s meeting.

“We heard from Minnesotans across the state about how they can be best represented in their communities,” said Chair Murphy. “Now that we’ve drawn the maps, we’ll continue to ask the public what these new lines could mean to them. The House will continue work up until the February 15 deadline to get a bill to the Governor’s desk. We believe we are in good shape to fulfill our legislative and constitutional duty for redistricting next year.”

“Minnesotans deserve equal representation and an opportunity to express their voice in our shared democracy,” said Vice Chair Klevorn. “The House has been steadfast in gathering all the information we needed to draw fair maps ahead of the 2022 session and are committed to doing all we can to deliver a bipartisan result to the governor.”

The newly drawn maps will be posted on the House Redistricting Committee’s website at 1:00 p.m. The committee will hear public testimony on the proposal on December 1 and 2 and interested individuals can submit written testimony to Nancy Conley at Nancy.conley@house.mn.
