Dear Neighbors, The House Speaker, Senate Majority Leader, and Governor Walz have reached an agreement on a framework for our two-year state budget. We’re moving along efficiently on time, and toward a cooperative and orderly end of the 2023 session. Work in legislative committees is winding down in the House, and chairs have assembled their respective budget bills. After our Easter Passover recess, committee work will conclude and each chamber will pass budget bills off the floor starting on April 11. As the chair of the House State and Local Government Committee, I’m pleased to report our committee was one of the first to advance our budget bill out of committee. A few components include ensuring each legislative day we count is used properly, updating the approval process of governor-appointed commissioners, and allowing licensed notaries to perform marriages in Minnesota. You can learn more here. You can read more about the breakdown of each budget area of the proposed tri-cameral blueprint here from the nonpartisan office of House Public Information Services. Please reach out with any suggestions, input, or questions at rep.ginny.klevorn@house.mn.gov or 651-296-5511; I appreciate your feedback and value your thoughtful discourse. Wising you a peaceful Easter or Passover if you celebrate.
