Release: Minnesota House Passes Health Bill; Rep. Klevorn’s Provision to Require Insurance Coverage Hair Prosthetics for Cancer Patients

Friday, May 10, 2024

Saint Paul, MN. – Yesterday the Minnesota House of Representatives passed SF 4699, the Health Supplemental Budget and Policy bill. This strong bill takes meaningful action to enhance health insurance coverage, improve health care access, increase patient protections, reform Emergency Medical Services, and help address mental health in Minnesota.

The bill contains a provision authored by Rep. Ginny Klevorn (DFL-Plymouth), which requires insurance companies to cover hair prosthetics (wigs) after undergoing cancer treatment.

“Minnesotans deserve to live with dignity,” said Rep. Klevorn. “Cancer patients are already focusing all of their energy, time, and finances on their recovery and health; they shouldn't have to worry about how they'll pay for prosthetics or a wig for hair loss during their cancer treatments.”

Video of the floor debate will be uploaded to the House Information Youtube page. The bill awaits action by the Minnesota Senate.
