Dear neighbors,
I hope that you and your family are safe and enjoying the snow we’ve gotten recently! Here’s a brief update on what we’re working on at the Capitol:
Workers who have kept our state running while facing an increased risk of exposure to COVID-19 deserve to be compensated for their sacrifices and hard work. Last year, we passed legislation that contained $250 million of premium pay for frontline workers. Recognizing that this isn’t enough to get a meaningful bonus check to every worker who deserves one, we’re now advocating for a $1 billion investment.
Yesterday, I proudly cast my vote for HF 2900, legislation that would provide premium pay to 667,000 Minnesotans. Health care workers, first responders, long-term care and home care workers, school staff, and other frontline workers would all receive checks of up to $1,500.
Rep. Jamie Long and I recently kicked off another season of the Capitol Climate Connections podcast! In the first episode of our second season, Chris Conry from the 100 Percent Campaign joined the two of us to discuss the $1 billion plan to combat climate change that we launched in January. We talked about some of the investments in the plan and shared our favorite parts. You can listen to the episode here or wherever podcasts are found.
I also shared the 2022 Climate Action Plan with members of the League of Women Voters of Minnetonka, Eden Prairie, and Hopkins this week. It was a knowledgeable group, and they asked some great questions!
