Dear Neighbors and Community Members,
We have four weeks remaining of the 2022 legislative session! According to the Minnesota Constitution the legislative session must end on May 23, 2022. Over the next two weeks the Minnesota of Representatives will pass our House Position Omnibus bills on in the following areas:
These Omnibus bills contain many provisions on the topic area and upon passage will go to a Conference Committee with 5 members of the Minnesota House and Senate appointed by the Speaker of the House and Majority Leader of the Senate. At which time, the Senate and House will bring their proposed Omnibus bills to negotiate on a middle ground that will ultimately pass into law this session.
If there is a specific proposal you want more details on or would like me to track, please email me at rep.heather.edelson@house.mn.
More than a billion people in 190 countries celebrate Earth Day. Many of them use this opportunity to plant a tree, bike to work, or make lifestyle adjustments. These may seem like small changes, but together, they can make a big impact! At the Capitol, I'm proud to support legislation that addresses the climate crisis and preserves Minnesota’s environment and natural resources. Here is some more information on this important day and 10 ways you can make a difference!
Do you know a high school student who may be interested in politics, government or public policy? Then this is an opportunity for them! This is a great opportunity for students to learn about the importance of state government, how it works and how legislation is passed. I keep this internship very objective and steer clear away from partisan politics - whether the student identifies as a democrat, republican or independent - all are welcome and will be respected!
Free and open to all students that live or attend Edina, Hopkins, or Richield Schools! Takes Place in July for 3 weeks - dates and details can be found on the link below. If the student does not live in the district or attend schools in the district, feel free to email - I have made exceptions to allow students from other parts of Minnesota to join our group as well! No prior experience with government is necessary.
Apply and Share Today. Application deadline is May 10, 2022. Notifications of acceptance into the internship will be sent out no later than May 15, 2022.
It was great to join fellow parents, students and advocates to support my legislation HF3300 to increase funding for LETRS Training funds. Improving literacy in the State of Minnesota has remained a top priority for me here at the Capitol! I am impressed with the improvements we have made over the past 4 years – and know there is still much work to be done.
There was an impressive turn out at the Council on Asian Pacific Minnesotans Day at the Capitol yesterday! It was an honor to attend and hear more about the community's priorities for this legislative session.
Edina is looking for the next generation of City leaders! Students entering grades 10-12 in the fall are encouraged to apply for a spot on their boards and commissions. Learn more at and apply April 11 through May 20.
This Saturday is free state park day in Minnesota! On four days in 2022, all 75 Minnesota state parks and state recreation areas will offer free admission to everyone. Mark your calendar for these fee-free dates:
Minnesota state parks are open year-round, and there's a state park within 30 miles of most Minnesotans. With a free day in each season, it's a great opportunity to get out there and explore someplace new - or visit an old favorite at a new time of year! Whether you stay for the whole weekend or just spend a few hours outside, you'll make memories that will last a lifetime.
Minnesota is working to become the leading state for plug-in electric vehicle (EV) use in the Midwest. The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) is working on a plan to invest federal funds in electric vehicle charging stations and is seeking your input. Please take this 5-minute survey to share your ideas about where to install electric vehicle chargers in our state.
There is a highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) spreading through bird populations across the nation. Most confirmed cases of HPAI have been in backyard flocks. Highly pathogenic avian influenza is a reportable disease. If your flock has sudden, high death rates or many birds with signs of HPAI, contact your veterinarian or the Minnesota Board of Animal Health, at 651-296-2942, right away. Learn more here.
