Edelson Statement on Board of Pharmacy Civil Lawsuit Against Edibles Manufacturers and Retailers

Monday, December 5, 2022

SAINT PAUL, Minn. – Today, the Minnesota Board of Pharmacy announced a lawsuit against Moorhead-based manufacturers and retailers of edible cannabinoids. The manufacturer and retailer are alleged to have produced and sold products which violate state law. Rep. Heather Edelson (DFL - Edina), author of the law violated by these businesses released the following statement:

“The Minnesota-based businesses breaking the law should be investigated and held fully accountable civilly, and if they are determined to have caused direct physical harm, criminally. Improvements to our hemp laws will be addressed in the 2023 session, and I look forward to detailing these changes in licensure, enforcement, and taxation closer to session.

“While it is clear they need more resources, I would like to praise the Board of Pharmacy for utilizing the authority granted to them under our current law to hold these businesses accountable. I am fully supportive of the Board of Pharmacy’s full embargo to halt the distribution of $7 million worth of illegal products and the temporary injunction to seize and destroy the products which do not comply with Minnesota law. It is critical that we prioritize the health and safety of consumers and hold bad actors accountable.”
