St. Paul, Minnesota — On Tuesday, April 20, the jury reached a guilty verdict on all charges in the trial of Derek Chauvin for the murder of George Floyd. Representative Steve Elkins (DFL - Bloomington) released the following statement:
“This is only one moment in our ongoing struggle to create more just society, an important moment certainly, but we have a lot of work to do. George Floyd deserves so much more than this, he deserves to be alive and living in a society that values his life. I am grateful that we have an opportunity to heal and create a truly just society. I look forward to working towards a better world.
“I would also like to thank Jerry Blackwell, who is a constituent, who led off for the prosecution team and did a fantastic job. Thank you for your service, Jerry.”
