Shakopee, MN - Today, State Representative Brad Tabke (DFL - Shakopee) welcomed the House Capital Investment Committee to Shakopee as part of the committee’s Southwest Regional Tour. Rep. Tabke presented several local projects to be considered in the 2024 Capital Investment Bill.
“I want to thank my legislative colleagues for taking the time to come to Shakopee to hear about these exciting projects we’re putting forward, especially the Shakopee Innovation Hub and the Louisville Regional Trail Corridor,” said Rep. Tabke. “It’s always great to get out of the committee room and out into the communities that are actually impacted by these crucial investments, and I look forward to advocating for these projects next session.”
Local projects brought before the committee included a $7.2 million proposal for the Louisville Regional Trail Corridor. The proposal would design and construct 4.3 miles of multi-use trail, linking the Merriam Junction Regional Trail to the Big Woods Regional Trail - connecting the communities of Shakopee, Prior Lake, and Louisville Township. The other Shakopee-centric proposal requests $4 million to build the Shakopee Innovation Hub, which would serve as a regional workforce training and entrepreneur incubator facility.
Rep. Tabke successfully delivered millions in local investments in the 2023 Capital Investment Bill, which largely dealt with unfinished projects that had gone unfunded for several years. That bill funded $11 million for riverbank stabilization, reinforcing the area along the Minnesota River after years of extraordinary storms and erosion. The legislation also included $500,000 to Scott County for public water access improvement, $18.4 million for infrastructure updates to the Minnesota Correctional Facility in Shakopee, and $4 million along Merriam Junction Trail to prepare the riverbank for a bicycle and pedestrian bridge to downtown Carver.
