St. Paul, MN - Today, the Minnesota House of Representatives passed the State Government and Elections Budget bill on a bipartisan vote. Included in the bill was Rep. Brad Tabke’s (DFL - Shakopee) legislation providing clarity on absentee and early voting provisions.
“Every voter should have 100% confidence their absentee ballot is counted,” said Rep. Tabke. “This past election, Shakopee had a terrible situation where 21 absentee ballots were not counted because processes weren’t followed by law. Today, the Minnesota House passed my legislation clarifying and strengthening absentee ballot processes so it never happens again in our state.”
Following issues that arose during the 2024 election in Scott County, Rep. Tabke worked alongside Scott County, the Minnesota Secretary of State, and the Minnesota Association of County Officers to craft this legislation.
A conference committee of House and Senate members will meet to reconcile differences for a final bill. Video of today’s floor debate can be found on the House Public Information YouTube channel.
