Dear Neighbors,
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined and participated in our virtual coffee hour last Saturday! It was nice to see familiar faces and many new ones engaged in a productive community dialogue. Hearing from you helps shape my work for our communities at the Capitol, so I really appreciate everyone’s input.
Special Session Update
The House and Senate gaveled in for special session on Monday. Our commitment in the House to Minnesotans remains the same: enacting additional COVID-19 relief and recovery measures for our families and businesses; criminal justice and public safety reform; a robust and regionally balanced jobs and local projects or “bonding” bill that fixes our aging infrastructure and helps get more Minnesotans back to work; and a plan to help our Twin Cities small businesses rebuild after the civil unrest following the killing of George Floyd. As One Minnesota, we need to work together to deliver for everyone who needs help, especially as the COVID pandemic continues and confirmed cases are on the rise.
Child Care Support
Starting today, Minnesota child care providers can apply for funding announced by Governor Walz last week. Approximately 7,000 Minnesota child care providers will be eligible for $56.6 million in funds to help ensure children’s and staff’s health and safety in their child care settings during COVID-19. The deadline to apply is 5 p.m. on Thursday, July 23.
Property Tax Refund Information
Every year, many Minnesotans who are eligible for property tax refunds don’t take advantage of them. As your legislator, I’m committed to ensuring that everyone in our district who qualifies for refunds of a portion of their property taxes receive them. To apply for a refund, complete form M1PR by August 15, which you can file electronically for free. Learn more about how to file and what materials are needed by watching this one-minute video here. If you need any assistance, or a status update on your refund, don’t hesitate to reach out to my office.
Last Update
This is my last update until after the election. Pursuant to House Rules, Legislators cannot use state resources for unsolicited communications during an election period because it might create an unfair advantage. While I won’t be able to send out these updates for a while, you can still follow me on my legislative Facebook page.
