Release: Rep. Bierman Votes ‘Yes' to Expand Affordable Access to Child Care

Tuesday, February 14, 2023

St. Paul, MN – Monday evening, the Minnesota House of Representatives passed a significant bill to stabilize childcare costs and early learning in the state. Representative Robert Bierman (DFL-Apple Valley) voted in favor of the legislation.

“Child care assistance benefits employers by helping families afford child care so parents can work,” said Rep. Bierman. “Ensuring more access to high-quality child care supports the current and future workforce by helping young learners thrive in school and life.”

HF 13 would increase the maximum rates for all childcare assistance (CCAP)-eligible children to the 75th percentile of the most recent survey of provider rates. A recent review of state rates shows that Minnesota is currently near the bottom. According to the Minnesota Department of Human Services, in 2022, 2,588 children and 1,371 families were enrolled in the CCAP Program in Dakota County.
