SAINT PAUL, Minn. – On Tuesday, October 24th, Representative Robert Bierman (DFL– Apple Valley) hosted the House Capital Investment Committee in Apple Valley during their 2023 Bonding Tour.
The committee is touring sites for proposed capital investment throughout the state and toured the Minnesota Zoo. The Zoo is seeking $35 million from the legislature to help rebuild its 47-year-old animal hospital. The project will provide modern technology and best care practices for the facility by including an ambulance bay for safe animal transport, a nutritional lab for diet analysis and preparation, an Intensive Care Unit for small and large animals housed at the Zoo, an animal surgical space and aseptic holding facilities for large animal species, medical equipment storage, updated electrical, HVAC and plumbing systems.
Representative Robert Bierman released the following statement following the Capital Investment Committee’s visit:
“We heard from our incredible zoo about the need for a new animal hospital and loading dock to transport and care for the animals. The current facility dates back to the 70s and lacks sufficient space for operations, up-to-date equipment, and lighting. All of these updates are critical to enhancing the quality-of-care animals residing at the zoo need to live healthy lives. I’m honored to carry this funding legislation when the legislative session gets underway in February.”
