The House E-12 education budget would increase funding by approximately $769 per student in Apple Valley and Rosemount schools.
St. Paul, MN – This evening, the Minnesota House of Representatives is expected to approve the E-12 education budget that increases the per-pupil funding formula by 3% in the first year and by another 2% in the second year of the biennium. It makes honest investments in every student across the state. The budget is inspired by parents, students, teachers, staff, and administrators who have told legislators how budget cuts and growing class sizes have impacted the quality of instruction, support, and education in schools.
“While some communities have the financial ability to build great schools through bond referendums and bigger operating levies, other communities with smaller property tax bases do not,” Representative John Huot (DFL-Rosemount) remarked. “All of our children deserve a world-class education, no matter where they live or what they look like.”
Representative Huot is the chief author of “Support Our Students” legislation which has been incorporated into the final budget bill. His proposal will enable schools to hire additional student support staff, such as licensed counselors, psychologists, social workers, and nurses.
“Our budget includes investments to support our students inside and outside the classroom. We know when the experts in the schools - teachers, counselors, nurses, social workers and support staff - have sufficient resources our children and families will succeed,” Representative Huot said.

After the Minnesota Senate approves their E-12 education budget, lawmakers from each chamber will form a conference committee to reach agreement on a final budget.
