Much of our work will continue to build on unfinished priorities from last year- continuing to find solutions for skyrocketing prescription drugs, ensuring emergency access to insulin, enacting common-sense gun safety measures, and finding education solutions to close our widening opportunity gap in Minnesota. House Speaker Hortman and Majority Leader Winkler announced our Minnesota Values Plan early last week and I’m excited to get to work.
Committees hit the ground running yesterday. The House and Senate has approximately four weeks for bills to receive a hearing before our first major deadline on March 6. I was pleased that the Commerce Committee prioritized hearing and passing the Alec Smith Insulin Affordability Act yesterday. Minnesotans deserve access to affordable medication they need to survive and it’s time for Big Pharma to come to the table with solutions that put people ahead of profits. 2020 Census: Be Counted! The new decade means the 2020 Census is here. The count is mandated by the Constitution and conducted by the U.S. Census Bureau, a nonpartisan government agency, and provides critical data that lawmakers, business owners, teachers, and many others use to provide daily services, products, and support in communities across the country. Every year, billions of dollars in federal funding go to hospitals, fire departments, schools, roads, and other resources based on census data.
