Small Business Grant Relief Program Accepting Applications
Dakota County launched last week a fourth round of business and nonprofit support as a result of legislation the House and Senate passed on the state level in December.
This next round of grants first prioritizes businesses and nonprofits that have not received any county or state COVID-19 relief assistance, then provides additional funds to those that have already accepted some grant funds. Dakota County received $8.3 million for the program and will provide grants of up to $15,000 for local businesses and nonprofits.
Applications are being accepted through February 12 at 5:00 p.m. Learn more here.
Governor Announces COVID-19 Recovery Budget
As Minnesota continues to battle the COVID-19 pandemic, Governor Walz today announced his recovery budget to support working families, ensure students catch up on learning, and help small businesses stay afloat while driving economic recovery. I am still reviewing all the components of the plan, but I’m glad to see the governor is prioritizing Minnesotans hit hardest by the pandemic. You can read more here.
Democracy for the People Act
Last week, my House colleagues introduced a legislative package called the Democracy for the People Act, which aims to build a strong, inclusive democracy that works for Minnesotans of every race, region, political party, and generation. A key highlight of the package would ensure state and local elections officials can access the critical federal Help America Vote Act (HAVA) funds they need for election security and infrastructure. It also would close dark money loopholes to increase transparency in who is influencing our elections. You can read more about the Democracy for the People Act here.
