SAINT PAUL, MN – Early Friday morning, the Minnesota House of Representatives approved The Minnesota Police Accountability Act of 2020, The bill is a legislative response to the killing of George Floyd by a Minneapolis police officer. The racial justice and police accountability measure was authored by members of the People of Color and Indigenous (POCI) caucus.
Rep. Mohamud Noor (DFL-Minneapolis), author of two bills in the package, released this statement:
“This is the time to tell the world we are ready; ready to rebuild a society where everyone feels safe. It is our duty, our commitment, our obligation to tell those who feel invisible that we hear them. George Floyd is not going home. George Floyd’s family will not see him again. No one should be treated the way George Floyd was treated.
“This is just the beginning. This legislation is for those who think no one is fighting for them. This legislation is for all Minnesotans who want accountability for our law enforcement, so we all make it home at night.”
