St. Paul, MN - Today, University of Minnesota President Joan Gabel announced her resignation, having accepted the position of Chancellor at the University of Pittsburgh. President Gabel’s tenure began in 2019, when she became the university’s first female president.
State Representative Mohamud Noor (DFL - Minneapolis), whose district includes the University of Minnesota and who serves on the House Higher Education Committee, released the following statement:
“I wish President Gabel the best of luck on her future endeavors, and thank her for her service to the University of Minnesota. In their search for a replacement, I hope the university will prioritize the students and faculty that call the University of Minnesota home. Minnesota and our community recognize what an incredible asset the university is, and it’s an institution that deserves a president who will see it flourish.”
