SAINT PAUL, Minn. – On Wednesday, June 9, Rep. Kaohly Vang Her (DFL – St. Paul) toured Chicago’s Big Marsh and Indian Ridge Marsh with legislators from states that border the Mississippi River. The tour, organized by the Mississippi River Legislative Caucus (MRLC) and led by the Chicago Park District, demonstrated how wetland protection can create a healthier and more equitable environment.
“Our wetlands are essential tools in keeping and maintaining healthy waterways and protecting property,” said Rep. Her. “Chicago’s wetland protection projects demonstrate that restoration is a collective effort. To improve environmental health and equity, we must bring together people with a variety of experiences and expertise from both the public and private sectors. From botanists to artists, many partners are necessary to this work.”
